The Reference Section
15 March - 6 May 2013
The gallery team were recently approached by a group of artists who asked the question 'What if a group of artists were each to take a book and create a visual response?'
Artists are invited to put forward proposed or finished works which interpret a book of their choice. How is the written word translated and represented in visual language? How does narrative inspire the visual artist?
All media will be considered, including proposals for site specific or performance pieces. Please specify any technical installation and display requirements in your application and the gallery will endeavour to accommodate these requirements. The curatorial team will endeavour to select work that is not only strong in itself, but that will develop a conceptual and/or aesthetic relationship with the gallery space.
Please email images (up to 1Mb) along with a statement. Submissions and enquiries should be directed to kaleidoscope@kent.gov.uk
The deadline for receipt of submission is at noon on Monday 11 February.
Books referenced by the works in the the exhibition will be available in the Library during the exhibition.
